The first time I played this through, I didn't want to fight Toriel. She had rescued me from Flowey, showed me the workings of the Ruins, and even took me under her wing to live in her house. Was I really to repay her back in kind by taking her soul? And yet, I accidentally killed her the first time around, not knowing the proper way to spare. Even in her own death throes, she gave me advice about what lied ahead, and prayed that I would "be good." Look at what that reveals about Toriel's character. I was on the verge of tears to see her fade to dust.
